PD-MitoQUANT PIs at Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center, Dr Werner Koopman and Merel Adjobo-Hermans are the co-organisers of the annual Spring Symposium of The Netherlands Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NVBMB). The meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 31st, 2021 as an online event. The theme of the meeting is Mitochondrial Physiology and Pathology. All talks will be delivered in English.

Nine invited speakers will present their work. The lectures will discuss subjects ranging from the molecular to the clinical level. Examples include the biogenesis of the protein supercomplexes involved in oxidative phosphorylation, the assessment of mitochondrial bioenergetics at the single-cell level, the use of cellular and mouse models to investigate mitochondrial (dys)function in the context of ageing and various pathologies, the clinical aspects of mitochondrial DNA mutations and the use of stem cell-based therapies to combat mitochondrial disease.

At the meeting, PD-MitoQUANT researcher Daniele Bano of The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) will present PD-MitoQUANT results in his talk entitled, “Respiratory supercomplexes and single-cell assessment of mitochondrial bioenergetics.”

The Netherlands Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NVBMB) was established in 1927 and currently lists about 1200 members. The Society represents students and professionals working in the area of biochemistry and molecular biology and its members are from universities, institutes and industry. The Society aims to stimulate the field of biochemistry and molecular biology at a high professional level. It promotes co-operation and acts as a forum to share know-how and expertise. The main instruments of the society are symposia, lectures, prizes and travel grants.
