The “Parkinson’s Research in Ireland” seminar series 2.0 took place on April 8th and 15th, 2021. Both sessions were chaired by Dr Niamh Connolly of the RCSI University of Medicine & Health Science (formerly Royal College of Surgeons Ireland). Each evening consisted of two short talks followed by a question and answer session. Links to the presenter’s profiles and selected videos from the event are below:
8th April
- Representing the World Parkinson’s Congress 2022 and (PD Avengers, Richelle Flanagan discussed her diagnosis and subsequent experience as an early-onset person with Parkinson’s in her talk “To PD and Beyond.”
- Prof. Madeleine Lowery (University College Dublin, UCD) gave a fascinating talk about her research in deep brain stimulation. Her talk was titled, “Rhythms of the Brain: Towards closed-loop control of deep brain stimulation.”
15th April
- Prof. Maeve Caldwell (Trinity College Dublin) discussed her group’s work in “Using stem cells to Study the Role of Astrocytes in Parkinson’s.’
- COO Andrew Phelan and Research Associate Cecelia Reyes (Beats Medical) shared the podium to discuss ‘A novel Digital Therapeutic approach to Parkinson’s research and self-management.’
The two-part series was well-attended. The audience interacted via the ‘chatbox’ with questions and suggestions as to where to learn more.
