Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre (RUMC)

The Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre (RUMC) jointly operates with the Radboud University Nijmegen (RUN) and is one of the main academic hospitals in the Netherlands. Mitochondrial research is embedded within the main RUMC research theme: “Mitochondrial Diseases”, centralised in the Radboud Center for Mitochondrial Medicine (RCMM). The RCMM is a top-ranking international centre hosting more than 100 mitochondrial experts on clinical care, diagnostics and fundamental research.

Dr. Werner J.H. Koopman heads the Cellular Bioenergetics group within the Department of Biochemistry. His research focuses on understanding the connection between mitochondrial (ultra)structure and function and their role in the cellular (patho)physiology of human diseases. Dr. Merel J.W. Adjobo-Hermans is a member of the Cellular Bioenergetics group and an expert on quantitative cellular microscopy, fluorescent biosensors and bidirectional cellular-mitochondrial signal transduction.

In PD-MitoQUANT, RUMC will conduct morphofunctional in vitro studies in living and fixed cells using super-resolution analysis of mitochondria.
